Legendary Argentine singer and composer Leo Dan, born Leopoldo Dante Tévez, has passed away at the age of 82. His song “Te he prometido,” featured prominently in Alfonso Cuarón’s 2018 multi-award-winning film Roma, became a cherished piece of his musical legacy. Dan took his final breath on January 1, 2025, leaving behind a rich legacy of music.
His death was announced on Wednesday through a statement shared on his social media accounts. “This morning our beloved Leo Dan left his body in peace and with the love of his family,” the post revealed.
Written in Spanish, it continued, “Thus, He returned to the pure light of his Heavenly Father, to guide us and take care of us from infinity. Today, January 1, 2025, we invite everyone who was part of his story and who were touched by his legacy, to celebrate his love, his music, and his life. With great peace in our hearts, we remember and feel his deep love… forever.”
The statement ended with the biblical verse John 11:25: “Then Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”
Known for his soothing voice and uniquely emotive style, Dan stood as a giant in Latin music, enchanting listeners with hits like “Celia,” “Fanny,” “Como te extraño, mi amor,” and the unforgettable “Esa pared.”
His songs feel like the soundtrack of a lifetime, capturing love, heartbreak, and nostalgia in melodies that cross all borders.
Fans were eagerly anticipating his 2025 farewell performances in Arizona and at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, fittingly titled El Adios De Una Leyenda (The Goodbye of a Legend). Sadly, those plans have now been eclipsed by his passing.
Beyond music, Dan also made brief but memorable appearances in Argentine cinema, starring in ¡Cómo te Extraño…! in 1966 and La Novela de un Joven Pobre in 1968.
Leo is survived by his wife of over 50 years and their three children, a family who stood by his side through a lifetime of success and love. As we look back on his incredible life, there’s a story waiting to be told—the story of the woman who stood by his side for over five decades and the love that quietly fueled his unforgettable music.

She Was the Inspiration Behind ‘Mary Is My Love’
